Emergency Hormonal Contraception

Most of our pharmacies are able to offer a FREE (Check with the Pharmacy if they participate in the NHS service) Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) or Morning After Pill service, to women aged 16 years and above. Teenagers below this age may be offered the pill at the discretion of the pharmacist.
You will have a private consultation with one of our pharmacists if you request immediate access to emergency hormonal contraception.
Designed for occasional emergency use for prevention of pregnancy by women who have had unprotected sex, or if a contraceptive method has failed, emergency hormonal contraception should not be relied upon as a regular method of contraception. It can be purchased from a pharmacist by women over the age of 16.
Emergency hormonal contraception is a single tablet that is more effective when taken as soon as possible after sex, although it may be effective up to 72 hours after the event.
The pharmacist will personally speak to you to assess you are suitable for emergency hormonal contraception.
